Downloading Presets into Spooky

You can enhance functionality of your Spooky software software by adding presets from various preset providers. You first download the preset, which often come in zip archives. After you download the archive, you then open the archive and copy the files and folders from the archive into the Spooky file system, located in C:\Spooky2\Preset Collections\User if you installed Spooky2 into the default location. If you already know how to do this, you need not read the remainder of this post.

In this blog and other places that offer Spooky presets for download, you often just click on a Download link to start the downloading process of the preset archive. After the download competes, you can find the downloaded archive in the Downloads folder inside the Window File Explorer. If you don’t know how to start the Windows File Explorer, search for File Explorer in the Windows Search at the bottom left of your Windows screen.

After you start the Windows File Explorer, click on the Downloads folder in the left column of the window, either under Quick Access or This PC. In the picture below, to the right you will see the contents of the Downloads folder. In the example below, I have downloaded Low_Power_Terrain.zip to my computer.

I then double-click Low_Power_Terrain.zip on the right column to see the contents of this archive. Below, I see a folder that I will soon copy into my Spooky Users folder.

Inside this archive above, there is only a single folder. Some archive may contain either multiple folders, or multiple files and folders, or multiple files. You want to select all of them. For a single item, you just click it. If there are multiple items, click one item, then type Control-A to select all the items. After you make your selection, click the right mouse button to bring up the popup context menu, and choose the Copy menu command.

Now in the File Explorer, you want to navigate to the Spooky2 folder. In the left column of the File Explorer window, under This PC, is my hard drive, by default labelled Local Disk (C:). If you renamed your hard drive to My Disk, you will instead see My Disk (C:). Click on Local Disk (C:), and scroll through the right column until you see the Spooky2 folder. Double-click Spooky2, then find and double-click Preset Collections, then find and double-click the User folder.

Now click in the right column, inside the User folder, right-click to bring up the pop-up context menu, and choose the Paste command.

At this point you will see the Terrain Low Power folder in the User folder.

Now go into the Spooky application, and click on the Presets tab. Then click the User folder button (see below). You will now see the >Terrain Low Power folder in the list of presets.

At this point, you have successfully installed a downloaded archive of presets.
